All-night vigil for Pakistan quake victims
|
| An all-night vigil tonight at Palo Alto’s Civic Center Plaza will commemorate the 90,000 people who died in the devastating 7.6-point Oct. 8 earthquake in Pakistan and seek to call attention to the desperate needs of hundreds of thousands of survivors.
The vigil, beginning at 9 p.m. with a candlelight ceremony, will continue through the night, with participants asked to bring sleeping bags.
The vigil is being sponsored by Multi-faith Voices for Peace & Justice, Amnesty International, the Asian Law Alliance and American Muslim Voice.
The groups are asking people to donate to continuing relief efforts for survivors of the earthquake in the face of lagging worldwide relief efforts and approaching winter in the remote Himalaya region.
