First Person: A conversation with Betsy Franco

Betsy Franco, Palo Alto resident and mother of Oscar-nominated actor James Franco, talks to Palo Alto Online about her upcoming play "Metamorhosis: Junior Year" at the Palo Alto Children's Theatre, (March 3-5 and 10-12), her multimedia creative life, and what it has been like to raise and collaborate with three artistic sons.

Franco is the author of more than 80 books for children and young adults. She lives in Palo Alto with her husband Douglas. They have three sons, James, Thomas, and Dave -- two actor/​writers and a sculptor/​illustrator.

Her play, "Metamorhosis: Junior Year," is based on her young-adult novel and will be staged at the Palo Alto Children's Theater March 3-6 and 10-12.

Loved the idea of the First Person videos. It would be great to open it so that local video makers and film makers could submit their stories. There are many talented students (high school and college) and professionals that would love to produce small high quality pieces to be published at Palo Alto Online. - Ann
