Senior Sarah Flynn matched her career high with five goals and the 13th-ranked Stanford women's lacrosse team opened Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play with a 21-4 victory over visiting Fresno State Wednesday night.

Flynn also surpassed 100 career goals, the 10th Stanford player to reach the century mark.

The Cardinal (2-0) hosts fifth-ranked Syracuse at 1 p.m. Sunday in a nonconference match.

Emilie Boeri and Leslie Foard, the reigning MPSF Player of the Week, each added three goals as Stanford improved to 4-0 against the Bulldogs, in their third year sponsoring the sport.

Jacqueline Candelaria and Ryan O'Shea also scored twice as a total of 11 Cardinal players reached the scoring column.

"We wanted to start off conference play with a win," Stanford coach Amy Bokker said. "The game also allowed us to get everyone playing time and see what options we have going forward."

If Stanford hopes to make a run at the regular-season Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title, Thursday night's game at USC would be a good place to start.

The Trojans (6-1, 6-1) lead the conference by a half-game over BYU (6-2, 10-3) and a full game over Stanford (6-3, 9-3) and are coming off their first loss of the season at Pepperdine last Friday.

The Cardinal split a pair of matches last week, beating UC Irvine and losing to UC San Diego.

Stanford also plays at Pepperdine (2-5, 4-5) Saturday.

USC's Troy Murphy ranks second in the MPSF with 4.92 kills per set while Stanford's Brad Lawson is fourth at 4.28.
