Alyssa Lo, Melissa Seidemann and Cassie Churnside each scored three goals and the top-ranked Stanford women's water polo team ended its opening weekend unbeaten in four matches after beating host Michigan, 14-5, Sunday at the Michigan Kick Off in Ann Arbor.

Kelsey Suggs and Sacred Heart Prep grad Pallavi Menon each added two goals for Stanford (4-0), which also beat Indiana, 14-1, earlier in the day.

Victoria Kennedy and Kaitlyn Lo also scored for the Cardinal, which outscored its opponents 57-11 on the weekend.

Amber Oland recorded nine saves in goal against the Wolverines.

In the win over the Hoosiers, Jillian Garton, Menlo School grad Kim Krueger, Kaley Dodson, Annika Dries and Menon each scored twice. Kate Baldoni had 12 saves.

Stanford hosts its own Invitational on Feb. 5-6 at Avery Aquatic Center. The Cardinal meets Arizona State at 8:30 a.m. and California at 4 p.m. on the first day.

Women's gymnastics
Alyssa Brown, Shelley Alexander, Ashley Morgan and Allyse Ishino each won an event and second-ranked Stanford beat visiting UCLA, 196.200-194.825, in a Pac-10 meet Sunday.

Morgan won the floor exercise with a score of 9.925, while Alexander won the beam with the same score for the Cardinal (7-0) in its home opener.

Brown tied Ishino for the bars title, each recording a 9.850. Tauny Frattone won the vault for the Bruins.

Stanford travels to Utah for a meet Friday night.

Men's volleyball
Freshman Eric Mochalski pounded two consecutive kills to allow Stanford to escape the islands with a 25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 34-36, 17-15 victory over Hawaii before more than 3,568 fans at Stan Sheriff Center on Sunday night.

After No. 2 Stanford (4-1 overall, 3-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) failed to put away the No. 13 Warriors (1-4, 1-1) on five match points in the fourth set, the Cardinal fell behind in the fifth. But, this time, Stanford fought back.

Senior outside hitter Spencer McLachlin, the Honolulu native who had played numerous times in the same arena as a basketball and volleyball star at Punahou School, had 29 kills for Stanford. He hit .375 and had seven blocks in a match that last 2 hours and 54 minutes.

Stanford setter Evan Barry had a career-high 62 assists while passing the Cardinal to a .355 hitting performance. Two other Honolulu natives had big matches for the Cardinal: Brad Lawson, had 18 kills and 12 digs, and libero Erik Shoji had 16 digs.

Wrestling
Oregon State topped visiting Stanford, 35-6, in a Pac-10 dual meet Sunday. Justin Paulsen and Kyle Meyer each recorded wins for the Cardinal.

Sixth-ranked Nick Amuchastegui narrowly lost his bout at 174 pounds to No. 7 Colby Covington, 3-2. Zack Giesen lost his first bout of the year, dropping a 3-2 decision to No. 19 Chad Hanke at 197 pounds.

Sixth-ranked Ryan Mango (125 pounds) did not compete against the Beavers.

Stanford (2-1, 7-7) travels to Boise State for a conference meet on Friday.
