Police use Taser on transient at Castro Starbucks
Man threw coffee on officer, resisted arrest, police say
|
An officer used a Taser on a homeless man who allegedly threw a cup of coffee on another Mountain View policeman early Wednesday morning, a spokeswoman for the police department said.
Starbucks employees called police just before 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 29 to report that Michael Holmes, a 56-year-old homeless man, was causing trouble inside the store, located at 750 Castro St., Liz Wyile, a spokeswoman for Mountain View police, said.
Holmes became angry after the officer asked him to leave the premises and then threw his coffee on the officer, Wylie said. The officer tried to arrest Holmes, but a scuffle ensued when Holmes resisted, she said. The first officer went to the ground with Holmes and another officer used his Taser to stun Holmes.
Holmes was taken to El Camino Hospital for treatment and then booked into jail on charges of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.— Nick Veronin Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
