Gas prices stay high in Bay Area, drop statewide

Share
The average price for gas remained above $3 in the Bay Area but has dropped below that mark statewide due to high supplies and weak consumer demand, according to an AAA survey released Wednesday.

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the Bay Area is $3.10, down 6 cents from the agency's report released on Oct. 13.

Vallejo had one of the lowest average gas prices in the region at $2.97, while San Francisco was among the highest at $3.11.

In California, the price of a gallon dropped to $2.98, down 4 cents from last month. However, the state still has the third-highest average gas price in the nation, and the price is still well above where it was in November 2008 when Californians were paying $2.55 per gallon.

The national average price of gas rose from last month, up 18 cents to $2.66.

AAA officials believe the price of gas should remain relatively steady in the near future for Northern California and the nation.

"When it comes to oil and gas prices, a balancing act of sorts is currently in effect," AAA spokesman Matt Skryja said in a statement.

"A weak dollar is spurring investors to buy oil, which is helping to drive up the price per barrel. However, vast oil reserves and weak consumer demand are helping to keep prices at the pump relatively stable for motorists across most of Northern California," Skryja said.

A two hour drive east of the bay area gas prices are as low as $2.56/gallon. If you live in the bay area you are getting ripped and will continue to until people wake up and actually do something. What an effing joke, to say the least.

Clearly, the price difference is due to price gouging and profiteering rather than supply-and-demand.
