Reunion for a Stanford Rose Bowl team is set
Members of the 1971 team that beat Michigan will gather in Palo Alto during Big Game week

Share
A reunion of members of Stanford's 1971 football team that defeated Michigan, 13-12, in the 1972 Rose Bowl is being planned for Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at 5 p.m. at the Old Pro Sports Bar & Grill, 541 Ramona St., Palo Alto.

The event, one of a series of pre-Big Game events scheduled for that week in and around the Stanford campus, is open to the public. California plays Stanford in the Big Game on Nov. 21 at Stanford Stadium. Game time is 4:30 p.m.

Attendees at the Old Pro event will watch a commercial-free replay on several screens of the entire 1972 Rose Bowl game, in which the Cardinal came from behind in the last few minutes and upset the highly ranked Wolverines on a long field goal by Rod Garcia.

Former head coach John Ralston and several team members are expected to attend; halfback Reggie Sanderson is among those who have been confirmed.

The event is being staged by a new, locally based media startup called YourSports.com, which organizes groups of fans to watch special events via Webcast or viewing party for a small fee. YourSports.com is using a concept called Crowdfunding to create this new media business.

In Crowdfunding, interested viewers pledge at least $10 to unlock the media rights and watch games and other events like Stanford's 1972 Rose Bowl victory online. In-person events, such as the Nov. 18 event at the Old Pro, bring people together to enjoy the game in a group experience. Crowdfunding participants may attend the Old Pro event free of charge; all others will pay $20 at the door.

For more information on attending the Nov. 18 event, serving as a sponsor, or about YourSports.com itself, contact founder Chris McCoy at at chrism@yoursports.com or call (206) 910-7379.
