| Girls varsity soccer tryouts are held on the brand new field along the El Camino Real frontage of Palo Alto High School.
Construction costs were $1.84 million for the turf field, which includes a scoreboard and lighting for night play.
The field, which was ready for play Nov. 2 after three months of construction, will be used for boys and girls lacrosse as well as for soccer, officials said. Enclosed by an eight-foot vinyl-coated chain-link fence, the field has 20-foot-high netting at the ends to keep balls in. Bleacher sections are planned for the field's west side.— Chris Kenrick
