Stanford field hockey gets its chance
15th-ranked Cardinal is headed for the NCAA Play-in game Tuesday

Becky Dru and Xante Travlos scored goals in the first seven minutes of play and the Stanford field hockey team held on to beat California, 3-0, in the championship game of the NorPac Conference tournament on Saturday.
Stephanie Byrne also scored for the 15th-ranked Cardinal (16-4), which advances to the NCAA Play-In game at Boston University on Tuesday. The Terriers (10-11) beat No. 17 Albany, 4-1, in the America East Conference title game to advance.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alessandra Moss recorded nine saves in the contest as Stanford advances to its third consecutive play-in game. The Cardinal reached the NCAA tournament field two years ago.
Men's water polo
Drac Wigo scored five goals and third-ranked Stanford beat host Long Beach State, 11-6, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest on Saturday.
Jimmie Sandman had seven saves for the Cardinal (5-0, 17-1), which plays at UC Irvine on Sunday.
Women's volleyball
Alix Klineman recorded 18 kills and Stanford ended its longest losing streak (two matches) in nine years with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 Pac-10 victory over host Washington State on Saturday night.
The fifth-ranked Cardinal (9-4, 16-8) hosts Oregon on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Ducks handed Stanford one of its conference losses in their meeting in Eugene.
Gabi Ailes added 25 digs, while Stephanie Browne, Janet Okogbaa and Jessica Walker each had at least six blocks in the match.
Tennis
Both the men's and women's doubles teams from Stanford reached their respective championship matches at the ITA Indoor Championships with semifinal victories on Saturday at Yale University.
Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher beat a team from Tennessee, 7-5, 6-1, and will face a team from Duke in Sunday's final.
Hilary Barte and Lindsay Burdette needed three sets to beat a team from UCLA, 5-7, 7-6 (2), 7-5, to reach the finals against a team from Tennessee.
