Ailes digs some positives out of Pac-10 loss
Fifth-ranked Stanford suffers first losing streak in four years with setback to Washington
|
Junior libero Gabi Ailes recorded 28 digs to move into second place on the all-time list but it came in a 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 setback to host Washington in a Pac-10 contest Friday night.
Cassidy Lichtman had 14 kills and Alix Klineman added 12 kills as the fifth-ranked Cardinal (8-4, 15-7) slipped into third place in the conference behind the Huskies and UCLA.
Stanford suffered its first losing streak of any kind since dropping two straight Oct. 8-13, 2005. The Cardinal has never lost more than two in a row under coach John Dunning.
Stanford hopes to avoid that Saturday night when it travels to No. 24 Washington State for a 7 p.m. first serve.
The seven losses are the most in a single season since the 2000 team lost 12. The Cardinal has lost more than seven in a year three times since 1982.
Ailes has 1,467 career digs, moving ahead of Kristin Klein and is within 130 digs of matching Olympian Kristin Richards' career mark of 1,597.
Ailes has a chance to reach that mark with six conference games remaining and at least one NCAA tournament contest.
