Jacob Smith, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation reigning Player of the Week, scored three goals and the Stanford men's water polo team defeated visiting UC Davis, 10-2, in a nonconference match Wednesday night.

Senior Ryan McCarthy added two goals as the third-ranked Cardinal (17-1) won its sixth straight, scoring 10 or more goals in five of them.

Smith has scored 11 goals in his last four games as Stanford returns to MPSF action Saturday with a noon game at Long Beach State.

Field hockey
Lesley Irvine was named NorPac Conference Coach of the Year, Xanthe Travlos was named West Player of the Year and Becky Dru was named Rookie of the Year as Stanford was well-represented on the all-NorPac team.

Travlos and Dru were joined by Camille Gandhi and Alessandra Moss on the first team, while Midori Uehara was named to the second team.

Freshman goalie Beth Ridley, a medical redshirt, was presented the Julie Nagel Extraordinary Teammate Award.

The 15th-ranked Cardinal opens the NorPac Conference tournament Thursday with a 1:30 p.m. contest against Appalachian State.
