Shooting hospitalizes East Palo Alto man
26-year-old shot in the abdomen by unknown assailants on Laurel Avenue

Police in East Palo Alto are investigating an early morning shooting today (Friday) that hospitalized one man.
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter system alert reporting five gunshots detected in the 1100 block of Laurel Avenue at around 1 a.m. Police dispatch was called shortly thereafter with a report of a shooting in front of 1144 Laurel Ave.
Arriving officers found one man suffering a gunshot wound to his abdomen, police reported.
The victim was identified as East Palo Alto resident Richard Madrid, 26. He was
treated at the scene by Menlo Park Fire Department medics and taken to a hospital in stable condition. He was expected to survive.
