The Stanford men's basketball season has yet to get started in earnest and it's already turning sour.

A week after it was determined that freshman Andy Brown would miss the season with a torn ACL in his left knee, Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins announced that sophomore guard Jeremy Green has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of unspecified team rules, effective immediately.

The announcement came Wednesday night. Green reportedly was arrested over the weekend at a campus dorm on suspicion of felony domestic violence on a female student, according to campus police.

Stanford junior forward Josh Owens will likely miss the season with an undisclosed medical condition. One Stanford official called his situation "long term."

It is expected that Green's legal situation will be cleared up and the sophomore is expected to return to the team sometime during the regular season.

Green was a Pac-10 All-Freshman Team selection who played in 34 games, making two starts. He averaged 6.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, and was 47-of-103 from 3-point range, a 45.6 percent success rate.

Green ranks second on the all-time Stanford freshman list for makes, attempts and percentage. He reached double figures seven times and led the Cardinal in scoring three times.

In the postseason, Green averaged 10.3 points while shooting 61.1 percent (11-18) from the field and 50 percent (6-12) from 3-point territory.

Brown injured the same knee that prematurely ended his senior year in high school.

"Andy was a kid that we expected to contribute," Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins said. "My heart goes out to him and his family with this knee injury. He really loves our game. He will work really hard on coming back and getting healthy."

Attempted assault on a female student, people should stop giving Johnny Dawkins props for trying to enstill values - he's trying to cover up what really happened by being proactive.

Let's not confuse this with a F in a class or missing a couple workouts.

Instead of teaching people how to take responsibility for their actions, he's teaching them how to cover up crimes.

Johnny Dawkins is a fine man and Stanford is fortunate to have a man of his character.

There is no doubt that integrity comes first with Mr.Dawkins.

John D: How is Coach Dawkins teaching someone how to cover up a crime? Can you be specific? I believe he acted upon the information he received. Coach Dawkins can take disciplinary action on his players. However, he isn't a dean, police officer or prosecutor.
