Posted by anonymous, a resident of the College Terrace neighborhood, on Oct 20, 2009 at 5:15 pm Amprahos - what are your suggestions. Never helpful to just criticize unless you can offer some ideas. How do you know that the previous programs have not been helpful to other parents and students and averted an attempt. Remember, helpful not hurtful. It's a lesson many of the posters on the other thread need.

Posted by j650, a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, on Oct 20, 2009 at 6:52 pm i feel like a former student should speak to students from gunn and paly at an assembly or something. i remember being in high school just 3 years ago. if i had a problem, i never thought about talking to my counselors. someone close to their own age needs to reassure them and tell them simple things like... there is life beyond just problems that are dealt with in high school. yeah, something may seem like the end of the world, but think about it... your life has literally only just begun. high school is a tiny chapter of your life, and there's so much more we can do. we've all been there.
i don't know. it's hard for people to open up... but i think hearing it from someone their age, a little older (like in college) would be good.

Posted by stanford kid, a member of the Gunn High School community, on Oct 20, 2009 at 8:31 pm I agree with the j650. I'm a generation older than current high school students, but I am a Gunn alum and grew up on the Stanford campus and the pressure to 'succeed' was huge; I can only imagine what it must be like now.
