Palo Alto power outage hits 2,300
Underground cable fails, causing massive hour-long outage
|
A 600-amp underground piece of cable at Page Mill Road and Hansen Way failed at 12:03 p.m. Monday, causing a power outage throughout much of north Palo Alto, Assistant Director of Utility Operations Dean Batchelor said. About 2,300 customers were affected by the outage, he said.
The cause of the failure is still under investigation, but California Avenue to El Dorado Avenue and El Camino Real to Waverley Street were affected. Power was restored to all customers by 1:25 p.m., Batchelor said.
"We moved some of the load to different sections and were able to pickup some customers," he said.
Batchelor added that the cable needs to be replaced.
Palo Alto police Agent Dan Ryan said reports of outages began pouring in from all over northern Palo Alto shortly after noon. Batchelor said no injuries or accidents have been reported as a result of the outage.— Tyler Hanley
