As part of the massive Palo Alto school renovations funded by last year's bond measure, the Palo Alto Unified School District Board of Education tonight will be asked to approve "conceptual designs" for nearly $50 million in projects at JLS, Jordan and Terman middle schools.
The projects, planned for construction from June 2011 to March 2013, are meant to accommodate expected growth at JLS and Jordan and provide a variety of basic upgrades at Terman.
All are funded by the $378 million bond measure passed by 78 percent of voters last June and intended to modernize campuses for the next 40 years.
The $17.2 million proposal for JLS includes eight new classrooms plus replacement of two portables and reconfiguration of the parking lot and drop-off area.
At Jordan, the $17.9 million project list includes seven new classrooms, an expanded -- or possibly new -- cafetorium, and drainage and seismic upgrades.
The $12.85 million project list at Terman includes renovation and expansion of the library, administration, computer labs, kitchen area and locker rooms, a new drama building and upgrades to windows and electric and accessibility systems.
Architectural plans have been available for parents to review at recent back-to-school nights.
Also tonight, the board will be asked to approve "focused goals" for the 2009-2010 school year. Those include renewal of the district's parcel tax in the spring of 2010, improved math instruction and seeking ways to improve the social and emotional health of students.
The regular board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the board room of school district headquarters, 25 Churchill Ave.
