Not to throw water on this great accomplishment, but how long will this person be out of commission, and how many others are there ready to take his place? Especially with the deficit in the state/prison system.

I remember growing up there and being able to ride your bike safely. I also remember not being afraid that someone would break into your house. I guess that is what money has brought to Palo Alto...theft and violence.

It's nice to have the wealthy, elderly involved in these discussions, I too remember growing up here, the only thing is, I remember our house getting broken into at least twice, and we didn't have any money.

I'm not sure what violence you're referring to, if you're talking about the cyclist that got hit on El Camino, that is called ignorance not violence.

Also where is the cry for a complete description of the perpetrator? Maybe that's reserved for people who drive Lexus'.

Not clear exactly what the PA PD did here, except send out the information provided by someone in the neighborhood to the Redwood City police and ask for help.

The way I understand it is papd detectives caught the guy. At least that's the way it reads to me! Great job Papd! We need more of these folks in jail!

The suspect is apprehended. Of what relevance is any further description, unless you are interested in starting a romantic relationship with a prisoner?.

The Lexus driver was not described other than being female and "elderly". She also is apparently still able to drive around. But glad you bought up the contrast. You will note that the police in this case promptly arrested the suspect. It wasn't referred to the DA and languishing.

But Many Hats, ought we we paying taxes to staff a PAPD that does both? I tend towards Andrew's point of view. In these lean times when we can't balance a budget, how about we focus the police on police work, leaving parenting, teaching and nannying to parents, teachers and nannies.

Cops are charged with overseeing public safety & detaining helmetless cyclists is overseeing public safety.

My house was broken into about a 2 months ago, I'm still waiting for the police to show up.

How lucky for you people who are bragging and jumping up and down with glee-get a life already!
