The Palo Alto Story Project -- a new initiative aimed at gathering community members' stories, reminiscences and reflections about the city -- launched Aug. 22 at the Palo Alto Festival of the Arts.

In this installment, Enid Pearson, a Palo Alto resident who played a pivotal role in the development and preservation of parks in the city, is interviewed. In her honor, the city renamed the Arastradero Preserve as the Enid Pearson-Arastradero Preserve (click image on left to watch video).

More Story Project videos will be posted at regular intervals on Palo Alto Online.

To contribute your own Palo Alto story at a future taping session, contact Karla Kane, editorial assistant, at 650-326-8210 or kkane@paweekly.com.

Congratulations. These short videos are an important addition to the Weekly's online content. I watched some of the interviews as they were taped and am impressed with the final results. The Story Project is also a great way to preserve local history through personal recollections. Continued success.

No story of Enid Pearson would be complete without coverage of her opposition to the direct connection of Oregon expressway to the new Dumbarton Bridge, an opposition that threw a commute stream through the heart of East Palo Alto [portion removed by Palo Alto Online staff.]

Enid Pearson is a phenomenon. We should all recognize that the quality of life in Palo Alto is what it is because of her imagination, intuition, action and stick-to-itness. I adore Enid and this vignette was charming. Well done PA Weekly. Please do continue this project.

I can't find a link to Pearson's guest column "A glimpse back at the history of Palo Alto parks dedication battles."

It's in the Sept.4 newspaper but I can't find it on line.
