| There was something familiar about Pannel Egboh's professional debut on Friday in the San Francisco 49ers' 17-16 NFL exhibition victory over the visiting Denver Broncos.
Egboh (6-6, 276) entered the game, played at Candlestick Park, in the fourth quarter, just after the 49ers took a 17-10 lead.
The Stanford grad's first solo tackle was of Denver's Darius Walker after a 2-yard gain. Three years before, Egboh was stopping Walker when he played for Notre Dame.
Egboh made another tackle on Walker, this one for a three-yard loss on a pass play a couple of downs later.
And there it was: Egboh's NFL debut, consisting of two tackles. He's one of three Stanford grads currently with the 49ers. Center Eric Heitmann is in his eighth season with San Francisco and rookie wide receiver Mark Bradford is also on the roster, but did not play against the Broncos.
Egboh started 34 of Stanford's 36 games dating to the 2006 season. He finished his career with 140 total tackles, including 84 solo efforts.
In his senior year, Egboh recorded 31 tackles, 17 of them solo, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. He blocked his second career kick when he deflected Washington State's first quarter field goal attempt.
Egboh signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent, impressing the SF coaching staff after appearing in two college all-star football games over the summer.
