High schools' neighbors to preview plans
Major new building set for Gunn and Palo Alto high schools

Share
Neighbors of Gunn and Palo Alto high schools were invited to campus this week to preview major new buildings planned at both schools.

At Gunn Tuesday, architects outlined projects that include relocation of portables, a new two-story classroom building, a new gym and reconfiguration of the parking lot.

At Paly, neighbors are invited to the school library tonight (June 17) from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to see plans for a new two-story classroom building, a new media arts building, replacement of bleachers and relocation of portables.

All are part of "Group I" of multi-phased plans to spend funds from last year's $378 million bond election to renovate the campuses for the next 40 years.

Already in progress at Gunn are a swimming pool, which was certified for use last week, and a new industrial arts building, slated to be finished by Thanksgiving.

The next step will be relocation of the "Titan Village" portables and the portables on Miranda Avenue to the parking lot to clear space for new construction, according to Tom Hodges, the school district's bond program coordinator.

At Paly, work on creating a new turf field along El Camino Real is expected to start in the next several weeks, Hodges said. In the summer of 2010, portables will be moved to the quad to clear land for construction of a new classroom building, he said.

The presentation will be given by architects from Deems Lewis McKinley Architecture of San Francisco, who are drawing plans for both campuses.
