'Not guilty' pleas in assault on Menlo students
Altercation in Menlo Park left one college student with fractured skull

Share
A former Menlo College football player and another man accused of felony charges in connection with the beating of two Menlo College students in late January pleaded not guilty to those charges Tuesday in San Mateo County Superior Court.

Benjamin Kain-Williams, 20, the former Menlo College football player, and Darrell Allen Willis, 24, of Wheatland, California, are charged with one count of felony assault and one count of felony battery causing serious bodily injury. Willis is also charged with one count of misdemeanor battery, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

The incident took place at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Garwood Avenue in Menlo Park in the early morning hours of Jan. 29, according to Menlo Park police. It left Donte Snyder, a member of the school's baseball team, in the hospital with a fractured skull.

Kain-Williams withdrew his enrollment from the school shortly after the incident.

Snyder was part of a larger group of men that had exchanged words at a restaurant with another group of men earlier that night, according to police. The two groups met up several hours later, where the dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, police said.

The other student who was beaten sustained serious injuries, as well, according to Wagstaffe.

Kain-Williams and Willis remain out of custody on $25,000 bail bonds and are scheduled to return to court May 4 for a preliminary hearing.

Stupid. Stupid. STUPID. What a wasted chance for a Menlo education so many kids would give anything to receive. All over juvenile posturing, alcohol and idiocy.

The group meeting up 'later'. By accident, or design? If planned, then that makes four stupid people. I hear that Stanford and Menlo has a Zero Tolerance policy toward incidents like this.

Use common sense people, and think your actions through to the end. And I don't mean when someone 'disses' you, I mean the moment you make up your mind to go out and consume alcohol. Alcohol makes you stupid, I used to bartend, served stupid 'til 2am nightly! (And I was the kind to cut people off early, amazing what tricks they pull to make sure they are fully drunk before closing). Have a plan in place, try to avoid getting blasted. Is losing your education worth getting 'faced?

COMMON SENSE!

I don't know what you're talking about. A lot of people enjoy fighting and I'm one of them. Things like this happen. You are entitled to your opinion but that doesn't mean you are always right. Remember that.
