Carly Fiorina undergoes breast-cancer surgery
Former Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO has good prognosis for recovery

Share
Carly Fiorina had breast cancer surgery performed on Monday at Stanford Hospital and has a good prognosis for a full recovery, her chief of staff told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard Co. and once named one of the most influential women in business by Forbes magazine, had been expected to consider a run for the U.S. Senate, challenging Barbara Boxer.

The Los Altos Hills resident only recently was diagnosed with cancer and is "doing great," Deborah Bowker, her chief of staff, told the Chronicle.

Fiorina headed up Hewlett-Packard from 1995 to 2005. She guided a merger with computer rival Compaq but resigned after the company had lowered earnings and underwent layoffs.

She currently works at Carly Fiorina Enterprises, a Bay Area nonprofit foundation.

Prayers for a full recovery Ms. Fiorina! Breast cancer often comes after ovarian. My mom is a 26 year survivor of a pretty serious case of ovarian, and a 5 year survivor of breast cancer.

We went shopping this weekend! :) she is now cancer free. Hang in there, you can do it!!!

Well, isn't this lovely? Everyone rushes to send words of hope to a random nameless pedestrian hit in a crosswalk, but no one but one has anything encouraging to say to Carly Fiornia. Why? Because she is a REPUBLICAN? Because she had something to do with your HP Stock options? Disgraceful. I hope she recovers soon and has a long and healthy life.

This has nothing to do with politics. It is sad for anyone who gets cancer and most of us know someone who has been affected by the disease and we all give our sympathy. But, since Carly has not done something which can cause comment, such as being hit by a car and we do not know the reasoning, there is very little reason to comment.

Regardless of someone's politics, we do not have to give sympathy. I think Robin Williams has all our sympathy for his heart problems too, but it isn't causing comment either.
