Menlo Park police investigate two robberies
Willows Market is robbed at gunpoint

Share
Menlo Park police are investigating separate robberies in the city Monday evening, including an armed robbery of a local market, an acting sergeant said.

At about 7:10 p.m., two masked men entered the Willows Market at 60 Middlefield Road. Acting Sgt. Kevin Paugh said at least one of the suspects brandished a gun as they ordered an employee to empty the cash registers.

The store had customers inside at the time of the robbery, but no patrons were targeted, Paugh said.

The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Earlier Monday, at about 5:45 p.m., an employee of a Blockbuster video store was robbed outside of a bank where he was going to deposit cash from the store, Paugh said.

The suspects approached the victim at Sharon Park Drive and Warner Range Avenue, pushed him to the ground and took an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Paugh.

The suspects fled in a black Toyota pickup truck.

One suspect is described as a white man between 19 and 20 years old with blond hair. He was wearing a black baseball hat, red T-shirt, baggy jeans and white basketball shoes. The other suspect is described as a Hispanic man between 19 and 20 years old with brown hair and a moustache. He was wearing a white T-shirt and gray sweatpants.

Nobody was injured in either robbery, Paugh said.

I sure am glad we're giving our Police Department those raises! They are doing such a fine job with crime prevention. What's happening to our safe neighborhoods?! None of the places where these robberies have been occuring are remote or considered "unsafe". These 2 robberies plus the knife-point robbery of La Boulangerie on Santa Cruz makes 3 armed robberies in less than 3 months. Even though El Camino looks like downtown Detroit with all the closed up and boarded up buildings, I thought we were at least safe going to our local neighborhood businesses!

What a ridiculous comment! How can any police department ever prevent thugs from deciding they want to rob innocent citizens? Criminals commit crimes - it happens all the time, every where. Some places more, some places less.

When the police are REALLY good, that means they can catch a large percentage of the bad guys. Even better, they can get good enough evidence to get a high conviction rate and even better, the thugs actually end up doing some time for their crimes AND deciding that crime doesn't pay. Now what world am I imagining?
