Deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office are on the lookout for a young man who fled the Ladera Swim & Tennis Club at about 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18, in a tan or salmon colored four-door sedan, perhaps a Nissan Maxima or Toyota Camry from the early 2000s.

Club staff had been detaining the man on suspicion of stealing from the lockers there, but he escaped and ran outside, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The club is at 3249 Alpine Road, just west of the intersection with La Mesa Drive.

A deputy arriving on the scene saw him and tried to stop him, but the man got into his car and “intentionally attempted to run over the deputy,” — an act that is considered as an assault — before heading east to Alpine Road and then north on Interstate 280, the statement said.

There were no injuries. Deputies describe the man as Caucasian, 5-foot, 6-inches tall, with brown hair and weighing about 140 pounds. At the time, he was wearing a white long-sleeve T-shirt and black pants.

Deputies are asking anyone with information to call Detective Ben Hand at 650-363-4192 or write to him at bhand@smcgov.org.
