An infectious disease expert will discuss the H1N1 virus — or swine flu — at the Stanford Blood Center Tuesday as part of the university’s Cafe Scientifique program.

Dr. Arthur Reingold is the head of the Division of Epidemiology at the University of California at Berkeley and has more than 25 years of experience studying and preventing infectious diseases.

He will provide an update on the H1N1 influenza strain’s clinical and epidemiological features and discuss control and prevention techniques.

The Cafe Scientifique program is an international network of informal groups that brings scientific debate into local communities, according to Stanford.

Admission to Tuesday’s event is free, and complimentary cookies and espresso will be served. The discussion will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the blood center’s Palo Alto site, 3373 Hillview Ave.
