All northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 101 in Redwood City closed at Woodside Road at 9 p.m. Wednesday night so crews could continue repaving roadway saturated by Tuesday’s accident-caused gasoline spill, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The highway was disintegrating and was potentially flammable since the fuel spill near Maple Street.

An estimated 2,400 gallons of gasoline spilled onto the roadway Tuesday when a van clipped a big-rig, knocking over one of its fuel tankers.

Also, one southbound lane, the fast lane, was closed at 9 p.m., a CHP dispatcher said.

All northbound and southbound lanes are expected to reopen by the start of the morning commute at about 6 a.m., the dispatcher said.
