Menlo School senior Nick Bisconti scored the opening goal to get the U.S. National Youth team rolling toward a 15-8 water polo victory over Puerto Rico on the first day of the UANA Junior Pan American Championships on Tuesday in Riverside.
Team USA grabbed an early 4-1 lead and increased that margin to 8-2 by halftime. After Puerto Rico opened the third period with a goal, the USA's Inoue answered with two goals of his own. The Americans made it 11-5 heading into the final period.

Former Stanford All-American Patrick Rodgers will shoot for his fourth straight cut this weekend when he plays in the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Ill. Joining him will be former Stanford teammate Cameron Wilson, who received a sponsor's exemption.
Rodgers is hoping to qualify for the British Open this year and earn his PGA Tour card for next season. He'll make his pro debut on the West Coast on July 31 at the Reno-Tahoe Open. Rodgers has earned $49,835 in three events thus far.
On the LPGA Tour, Stanford grad Michelle Wie will attempt to follow up her U.S. Women's Open title at the Women's British Open at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England. Wie shot 75 in Thursday's opening round, trailing leader Ayako Uehara by seven shots.
World No. 10 and two-time Grand Slam champion, Victoria Azarenka, has entered the 2014 Bank of the West Classic, set for July 28-Aug. 3 at Stanford's Taube Family Tennis Center. The former world No. 1, who will turn 25 on the fourth day of this month's tournament, owns an impressive 17 WTA titles so far in her young career.
She joins 10 others from the Top 20 in this year's player field, which include defending champion Dominika Cibulkova and world No. 1 Serena Williams.
Azarenka, who enjoyed her third straight Top 3 season in 2013 as she finished second in the world rankings, will be returning to Stanford for the fourth time in her career as she looks to claim her second Bank of the West Classic trophy. She defeated Maria Sharapova back in 2010 for her first BOW title.
Menlo-Atherton is looking for coaches for its JV girls volleyball and JV girls water polo programs. The fall season for both begins Aug. 15. The coaching stipend is $3,300.
