Palo Alto Municipal captured the PGA Junior League Golf championship by defeating host Los Lagos in San Jose, 9-3, on Monday. The victory came in the final match of league play, giving Palo Alto a 5-1 record.
The league is for boys and girls age 13 and under. Home-and-home matches were held with Santa Teresa, Los Lagos and Pruneridge.
"The PGA Jr. League golf is designed to bring a 'Little League' atmosphere to the game of golf," said Brad Lozares, head pro at Palo Alto Muni and one of three team coaches along with John McMullin and Mark Madayag.
Postseason play will be held in August and September in an all-star based competition. Palo Alto's coaching staff will select four members of the team to join six others from its league.
The Palo Alto team includes Tommy Yang, Richard Gao, Adam Thanaporn, Gabriel Yang, Lawrence Fu, Peter Li, Samuel Shi, Robbie Jones, Tushar Mehrota, William Zhou, Ralph Kho and Juan-Pablo Roa.
