Stanford right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill, the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, has been named to the 2014 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team, released by Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Wednesday.

Quantrill is one of five Pac-12 players to be named to the squad.

Quantrill is 6-5 in his first year of collegiate baseball while his 2.69 ERA and .220 opposing batting average both rank ninth in the league.

He has tossed two complete-game this season and recorded 93 strikeouts with 31 walks over 103.2 innings pitched. He closed out Stanford’s thrilling 5-4 victory over No. 4 overall seed Indiana in Monday’s NCAA Bloomington Regional, sending the Cardinal into a super regional this weekend at Vanderbilt.

Quantrill, a native of Port Hope, Ontario, was 3-3 with a 2.49 ERA against Pac-12 teams. He was Stanford’s first freshman starter on opening day since Mike Mussina in 1988.
