The Palo Alto 8th grade NJB All-Star team came away from the 2014 NJB All-Star National Tournament with a division title last weekend in Garden Grove, Orange County.
Palo Alto finished 4-0, topped by a 52-30 victory over Lemoore in the championship game on Sunday in the eight-team Evans Division.
Palo Alto opened with a 55-41 win over Villa Park and followed that with a 60-41 triumph over the Walnut Tarheels on Saturday.
In the semifinals on Sunday, Palo Alto faced the Tarheels again and once more pinned a loss on them, 61-35, setting the stage for the title contest.
Team members included Sean Lin, Ercan Gokcek, Conner Li, Byron Asch, Thomas Burton, Colin Grant, Mohr Tzur, Colin Griffin, Joseph Reynolds, Max Bears, Niklas Risano and Rhys Tracy. Coaching the team was Ahmet Gokcek and Joe Tracy.
Two weeks ago, the Palo Alto NJB 7th grade boys All-Net team won the Silicon Valley All-Net tourney, and then traveled to Orange County and successfully defended their national title.
Harvard sophomore Nicky Hu from Palo Alto High won his No. 6 singles match, 6-2, 6-4, to help the Crimson defeat St. John's, 5-2, on Sunday in Cambridge, Mass. Harvard will take an 11-5 overall record into Ivy League play this week. Also competing for Harvard is freshman Andrew Ball from Menlo School.

Menlo-Atherton High grad Becca Dorst of UCLA is the No. 3 scorer for the 20-2 Bruins this season with 29 goals following matches last weekend.
