A car crash along Palo Alto's "church row" on Middlefield Road barely missed hitting The Father's House on Monday afternoon.
A silver Saturn sedan traveling north on Middlefield near East Meadow Drive jumped the curb, flattened a bus stop pole and sideswiped a tree and utility box before slamming into a large tree in front of the church.
Police and fire personnel determined the driver was not injured, fire Battalion Chief Chris Woodard said. The driver was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for evaluation. The car's airbag was deployed.
The accident occurred along a stretch of road where there are multiple churches.
"We heard a loud bang," Church Pastor Glen Coulter said. He exited his residence and saw that the driver appeared to be in her 60s.
