Menlo College's Kyer Vega was named NAIA West Pitcher of the Week and teammate Daniel Comstock earned Player of the Week honors it was announced Monday.
In a doubleheader sweep of Vanguard, Vega earned the win for a scoreless inning of relief in game one, then earned a save in game two to become Menlo's all-time saves leader. He followed that performance with a 1 1/3 inning save in a win over Hawaii Hilo on Wednesday.
Vega got the start in game two of Saturday's doubleheader and threw eight strong innings to lead the Oaks to a 14-4 win over NAIA powerhouse Lewis-Clark State.
In addition to his mound work, Vega also hit .458 for the week (11-for-24) and drove in three runs. He currently has a six-game hitting streak. He singled in Menlo's 14-1 loss to visiting LC State.
Comstock, who hit a home run to account for the Oaks lone run Monday, hit for the cycle in his first four at bats of game one against Vanguard. He hit .500 (13-for-26) with six doubles, a triple, two home runs, nine RBIs, five runs scored and six walks.
