Stanford senior opposite Eric Mochalski has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Men's Division I-II National Player of the Week, the organization announced today.
In his first weekend as the starting opposite for the Cardinal, Mochalski seized the opportunity to lead his team to a pair of MPSF sweeps over UC San Diego and No. 9 UC Irvine. He averaged a team-best 3.60 kills per set and hit .448 in the two matches. He was also solid defensively with 2.40 digs and 1.00 blocks per set over the weekend.
Against UCSD, Mochalski registered six kills and hit .300 in the two sets he played. The team held the Tritons to a .100 attack percentage, the lowest by a Cardinal opponent this season. The following day against the defending champion Anteaters, the Manhattan Beach native tallied 12 kills on a .526 hitting percentage to accompany his seven digs and three blocks.
This marks the 13th time in program history a Stanford player has garnered Sports Imports/Player of the Week honors, with the most recent coming from Brad Lawson on April 17, 2012.
Nationally No. 7 Stanford travels to Stockton on Wednesday to take on Pacific at 7 p.m. Stanford then returns home to play host to No. 4 BYU on Saturday at 7 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
