Cardinal women appear ready for Pac-12 hoops opener

Chiney Ogwumike scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the fourth-ranked Stanford women's basketball team downed host Fresno State, 86-54, in nonconference action Saturday.

Taylor Greenfield matched her career high with 18 points for the Cardinal (11-1), which opens Pac-12 play on Friday with a home game against Oregon at 6 p.m. Amber Orrange added 15 points and Bonnie Samuelson had 14, one off her season-high.

Stanford made 12 of 29 shots from 3-point range, led by Greenfield and Samuelson, each with four as it won its 10th straight.

The Cardinal also recorded 26 assists (on 32 baskets), with Mikaela Ruef's career-best eight assists leading the way. Orrange added six.

Stanford began to put the game away following a 15-2 run midway through the first half. Ogwumike and Orrange combined to score 11 during the run.

Ogwumike moved within 10 rebounds of overtaking Kayla Pedersen's school career record 1,266. She's grabbed at least six rebounds in every contest and has recorded 12 double-doubles.
