Police say a loud boom that set off car alarms and awoke residents on the night of Aug. 28 was the result of a propane tank that they believe was purposefully ignited near the Greer Park skateboard park.
Witnesses told police that they saw three juveniles or young adults, wearing T-shirts and jeans, running from the scene, but police have not yet identified any suspects, said Palo Alto police Sgt. Kara Appel.
The fire department responded to the 10:20 p.m. blast but found little damage; a pillar in the park was burnt, she said.
Police ask anyone with any information about the event to contact the Palo Alto Police Department at 650-329-2413, anonymously email firstname.lastname@example.org or send an anonymous text message or voicemail to 650-383-8984.
