Family: 8th Annual Children's Moon Festival
The Parents' Club of Palo Alto and Menlo Park is hosting the free annual Children's Moon Festival on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Mitchell Park Bowl, 600 E. Meadow Drive, Palo Alto. Kids' activities such as lantern-making, handprint art, bubbles, games and a petting zoo will run from 3 to 5 p.m., with performances such as Asian dance following from 5 to 6, ending in a lantern parade. Community: Train Days
Trains and model railroading are the center of Train Days at the Los Altos History Museum, with new and retro layouts, diesel and electric and steam, on display together with food and drink vendors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 14. Music: Tricycle Music Fest
As part of a family music series to promote literacy, several bands will perform free family-friendly shows at local libraries this fall. The indie-pop band The Corner Laughers plays at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at the Portola Valley Library at 765 Portola Road. Later shows include: The Hipwaders at the Redwood City Fair Oaks Library, 1044 Middlefield Road, on Sept. 21; The Pop Ups at the Atherton Library, 2 Dinkelspiel Station Lane, on Oct. 20; and Aaron Nigel Smith at the East Palo Alto Library, 2415 University Ave., on Oct. 26.
