Recent Menlo-Atherton High grad Xin Fang won't have to learn a new mascot as she heads to Washington University in St. Louis to continue her golfing career for the Bears. She is one of three recruits for the Class of 2017.
Fang will join fellow recruits Samantha Han of Valley Christian and Jessica Wibawa of Harvard-Westlake, as announced by head coach Sean Curtis.
"I am thrilled with our new class of incoming freshmen. They are all from the West Coast and have some great accomplishments already in junior and high school golf. I hope they can come in and draw from those experiences to possibly contribute right away," said Curtis, the 2012 Division III Eaton Pride NGCA National Coach of the Year. "We begin our season the first day of classes and will be able to see where they will fall in our lineup that returns some veterans."
The Washington University women's golf team placed sixth at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship, its highest finish in school history. The Bears were ranked No. 4 in the final Golf World/NGCA women's coaches' poll and placed in the top-five in nine of 10 tournaments they competed in.
The 5-foot-5 Fang was a four-year member of the M-A girls' golf team and the team's MVP, qualifying for the Central Coast Section playoffs three times. She was the individual champ in 2009 and 2010 in the Peninsula Athletic League.
She'll major in the College of Arts & Sciences.
