A San Mateo man who drove up to a woman in Palo Alto and groped her from his car on Wednesday, June 5, was arrested Monday for sexual battery, according to police.
Police say that 31-year-old Belsasar Quiran stopped next to the woman as she was getting her car keys on the 400 block of Kipling Street. While still in his car, Quiran grabbed the woman's buttocks. As Quiran drove away, she called out to a bystander to take down the license plate of Quiran's vehicle, which the woman immediately took to the police.
Based on the victim's description of the man and the information provided by the license plate number, detectives determined that Quiran had committed the assault. Detectives visited Quiran's home in San Mateo on June 7 and arrested him on one count of misdemeanor sexual battery.
Police highlighted the importance of gaining the license plate number and the description of the perpetrator as key to Quiran's arrest.
Police do not believe that the crime was connected to last week's assault on a woman in the Palo Alto Baylands.
