Community: May Fete Children's Parade

Now in its 91st year, Palo Alto's May Fete Children's Parade heads down University Avenue starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, featuring parade floats, costumes, marching bands and bicyclists. Meanwhile, the Vintage Vehicles and Family Festival, with a wealth of retro roadsters, happens from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., presented by the Museum of American Heritage at 351 Homer Ave. in downtown Palo Alto. Art: Silicon Valley Open Studios

The annual Silicon Valley Open Studios event begins its three-weekend run this Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5. Peninsula and South Bay artists open up their home and group studios to show and sell their work, and to talk to the public about their creative process. The event continues through May 19, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For a list of participating artists, go to svos.org.

Music: Blackfest 2013

The rapper Future headlines this year's Blackfest, a free cultural festival at Stanford University's Levin Field that features music and dance performances and clothing and food vendors. The event starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, and is expected to last about four hours. Go to events.stanford.edu.
