A man who was robbed of $20 at a Menlo Park gas station Thursday pursued the two suspects, retrieved the money, and then led police to their vehicle, where the pair was arrested, police have reported.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, March 7, the man was at the Chevron gas station at 1399 Willow Road paying for gas at the cashier's window when two men walked up to him and grabbed a $20 bill from his hand, Menlo Park police said.
There was a brief struggle and the robbers fled on foot, Officer Allen Swanson stated in a news release. The man got in his car and caught up with them a half block away. The men returned the money and fled in a vehicle, Swanson said.
The man pursued the vehicle into East Palo Alto and called 911. Police found the vehicle and arrested the occupants.
Police identified the alleged robbers as Warner Travis, 18, of Menlo Park and Jeffrey Thames, 21, of San Francisco. They were booked into the San Mateo County jail on charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime.
