For the second time in 72 hours persons entered Nordstrom at Stanford Shopping Center and walked out with thousands of dollars in illegally obtained merchandise. But this time the alleged thief was caught, according to Palo Alto police.
Misty Latka, 46, of Napa was arrested and booked in Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose for felony grand theft after she was caught by store security shoplifting $2,973.80 in handbags, gloves, wallets and bracelets on Nov. 1, Palo Alto police spokesman Officer Marco Estrada said.
Nordstrom was the scene of another felony on Oct. 29 after a woman of a different description used a stolen credit card during a $2,000 shopping spree. The woman allegedly walked into a downtown Palo Alto office building on Forest Avenue, stole a leather change purse from a desk drawer and promptly went to Nordstrom, Palo Alto police said. She has not been apprehended.
Grand theft in California, Penal Code 487, is defined as the unlawful taking of another's property valued above $950.
