Palo Alto police have issued traffic advisories for both Saturday and Sunday in connection with a sold-out Stanford football game and a major bicycle ride.
Heavy traffic along Embarcadero Road, El Camino Real and Sand Hill Road is expected Saturday afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff, as Stanford takes on the University of Southern California. More than 50,000 people are expected for the first stadium sellout of the season.
About 1,500 bicyclists are expected for Sunday's Palo Alto Echelon Challenge and Gran Fondo ride, which begins at 8 a.m. at City Hall.
The course heads south on Bryant Street to Oregon Expressway, then west, climbing Page Mill Road to Junipero Serra Boulevard. After circling through the foothills, the ride ends up back downtown.
Bryant Street will be closed to traffic between University Avenue and Forest Avenue, and Hamilton Avenue will be closed between Gilman Street and Ramona Street. Those sections will re-open to traffic at about 8 p.m., police said.
