After going out for two and a half hours, a Palo Alto family returned home at midday Sunday, Aug. 12, to discover jewelry and cash missing from their house, police said.
"The family is still going through their stuff, so we don't have an exact total on the jewelry," Bready said.
"We're not on a crime spree per se, but this is still one of the more popular crimes happening around town. It's so random it's hard for us to get a handle on it."
The last residential burglary reported was Thursday, Aug. 9, on Manuela Avenue, according to the police log.
