An employee of Red Rock Coffee was injured Saturday when he tried to stop a man from stealing his bicycle, which was locked to a pole outside of the popular Mountain View cafe on Castro Street.
The Red Rock employee said he saw a man walking off with his bicycle, around 11:10 a.m. on April 14. When he ran outside to confront the man, the suspect punched him twice in the face and hit him over the head with a heavy object inside a black plastic bag, said Mountain View Police spokeswoman Liz Wylie. The victim hung on to his bicycle during the attack, she said.
The suspect suddenly stopped and threatened to come back and hurt the victim before he ran off into the parking lots in the 200 block of Castro Street, said Wylie. Police officers set up a perimeter and following a brief chase, arrested a 31-year-old Sunnyvale man found hiding between the Center for Performing Arts and the Mountain View Library, she said. Craig Jordan was identified by the victim and arrested on charges of robbery, making criminal threats, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a methamphetamine pipe and resisting arrest, Wylie said.
The victim, who suffered cuts, scratches and welts on his face and head, was treated at the scene by paramedics, Wylie said.
