A man who allegedly stabbed another in the leg during a fight inside a 7-Eleven store in downtown Palo Alto early Friday morning, March 30, was arrested by police for assault with a deadly weapon.
At about 1:33 a.m., Palo Alto police officers received a report of a fight inside the 7-Eleven at 401 Waverley St. in which one person was armed with a knife. About five minutes later, officers located the suspect, 26-year-old Cody Cowin of San Rafael, two blocks away on Waverley at Hamilton Avenue and detained him, Lt. Zach Perron said in a statement.
The investigation revealed that an argument between Cowin and the victim allegedly escalated to a physical fight while they were shopping inside the store. The two did not previously know each other. During the incident, the Cowin allegedly stabbed the victim once in the shin with a folding knife, Perron said.
Palo Alto Fire Department paramedics transported the victim, a male in his forties, to a local hospital for treatment. He was released later Friday morning. Cowin also sustained an injury to his finger during the fight that required medical attention at a local hospital.
Police booked Cowin into the Santa Clara County Main Jail
on one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
The police are asking that anyone having information about the assault contact the department's 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or sent via text message to 650-383-8984.
