Palo Alto Police Officer Alisa Doran was sitting in a parked patrol car at Mitchell Park about 11:50 a.m. today (Wednesday) when she heard footsteps rapidly approaching, Detective Brian Philip said.
Doran was able to get out of the patrol car and pointed a Taser at the man while calling for additional police units.
The man placed his hands on the trunk of the patrol car when he saw the Taser, Philip said. The Taser was not fired.
The man did not have any identification, provide a name or any reason for his actions, Philip said. He was wearing only cargo shorts and tennis shoes.
He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose on charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Philip said the man was later identified as Gavin Myers, 38, a transient.
Doran suffered minor cuts and bruising to her arm and did not require medical attention.
