A Palo Alto High School teacher on her lunch break saw two unattended toddlers in the street around noon Wednesday while she was driving back to school after going to the downtown Post Office.
Margo Wixsom pulled over while another person called 911. Wixsom, who teaches photography, said a Palo Alto motorcycle officer showed up quickly at the location on Bryant Street near downtown. A few minutes later, a woman came running out of a nearby house.
The two toddlers were the woman's children, Sgt. Sandra Brown said. The woman had left the door to her house open and they had wandered off.
"She may have very well saved those children from being hit by a car or something worse," Brown said of Wixsom. "It's nice to have citizens who get involved when they see something wrong."
