Jay Boyarsky, a Santa Clara County deputy district attorney and Palo Alto resident, has filed papers to run in the June 3 election for judge of the Santa Clara County Superior Court.
Boyarsky, who has worked in the district attorney's office since 1994, was the supervising district attorney in Palo Alto for North County from 2002 to 2007, supervising 10 attorneys.
Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith has endorsed Boyarsky.
"Jay has been a top-notch criminal prosecutor for Santa Clara County for many years," Smith said. "He helped pass Maricela's Law to protect women and children in community from sexual predators. He has prosecuted many of the worst criminals, including rapists and child molesters."
Boyarsky has also been endorsed Palo Alto Police Chief Lynne Johnson and several county police officer associations.
