State Highway 9 reopens after closure

State Highway 9 over the summit of the Santa Cruz Mountains was closed earlier Monday morning because of snowfall, and a Sig-alert for the area was issued at about 10 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Snow was removed from the roadway and conditions improved enough for the highway to be reopened at about 10:40 a.m., CHP Officer Tracy Hoover said.

A snow advisory in effect until 4 a.m. Tuesday has been issued for all Bay Area hills and mountains above 1,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

Reports of accumulating snow, particularly in the Santa Cruz Mountains and the hills and mountains in the East Bay and North Bay, caused weather officials to issue the advisory before 4 p.m. as originally scheduled, forecaster Brian Tentinger said.
