Stanford University has announced plans to build 37 single-family homes along a narrow strip of land along Stanford Avenue, between El Camino Real and Harvard Street.
The two-story homes would be between 1,700 and 2,300 square feet and would face the College Terrace neighborhood of Palo Alto. The land, near Escondido Village graduate student housing, is not within the city. The homes would be set back at least 25 feet from Stanford Avenue.
The university hopes to make the homes affordable to junior faculty members through financing programs.
Construction is expected to begin in 2009, according a university announcement. The Stanford Board of Trustees approved the project at its Dec. 10-11 meeting.
The trustees also approved a plan to build 29 townhouse-style rental homes for its athletic coaches and staff on a 3-acre campus site near El Camino Real and Stanford Avenue. Construction of that project is expected to begin in June.
